Opening of the new clubhouse extension
The official opening of the new clubhouse extension took place on Friday. A gathering of dignitaries from Spelthorne and Surrey County Council enjoyed refreshments in the clubhouse and could see for themselves the wonderful new community lounge area.
Representatives were also present from the 3 clubs of WR Sports Club (tennis, table-tennis & bowls) and our sister site at Short Lane, Stanwell (Cricket & Hockey) that make up Ashford Sports Club.
Keith Robinson from WR Sports spoke and recognised the huge amount of work that a number of individuals undertook on the project. Keith Claxton as Project Manager rightfully got a special mention. However the main praise was saved for Mary & Len Claremont who worked tirelessly to obtain the grant of £300K through Surrey County Council and without whom the project would not have happened. It was at this point that it was announced that the new lounge would be aptly known as the ‘Claremont Lounge’.
It was then left to Kwasi Kwarteng, MP for Spelthorne to cut the ribbon and declare the new extension open.
All members can now enjoy the additional space that the new community lounge provides as well as a new kitchen, accessible toilets and new women’s changing rooms.
Private hire of the lounge will also bring in extra income required for the ever increasing costs at the site.
