2018 Tournament Finals Weekend #3

The third and final club tournament finals took place last weekend. This was the turn of the Handicap events and the results are listed below.

Saturday’s Finals:

Ladies’ Handicap Doubles – Winners: Gini Lara / Lauraine Levett
Runners up: Ester Waghorn / Anda Banks
Score: 6-3, 6-2
Scorching heat and a match to rival the sun, the underdogs come through in this one, very tense towards the end 😊

Ladies’ Handicap Singles – Winner: Ester Waghorn
Runner up: Gini Lara
Score: 6-0, 6-1
Again two competitors from the Ladies’ doubles battling for honours – Esther reversing a loss in the doubles to salvage some pride

Men’s Handicap Doubles – Winners: Ian Mitchell / Andy Mason
Runners up: Jeff Howe / Grant Richards
Score: 2-6, 6-3, 6-3
Another feast for the spectators – a real topsy-turvy affair with newbie Ian getting a share of the spoils.

Sunday’s Finals:

Super Vets Handicap Doubles – Winners: Gini Lara / Sandra Clements
Runners up: Peter Cox / William Rutherford
Score: 7-5, 6-0
Battle of the Sexes – after a dogged 1st set, the women turned the screw in the second winning 6-0 in under 12 minutes!

Mixed Handicap Doubles – Winners: Kevin Uwins / Pauline Uwins
Runners up: Freddie Levett / Anda Banks
Score: 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7)
The form book went out the window with the Uwins’s stealing it here. The last set will be remembered for an epic rally which paved the way for the Uwins clan.

Men’s Singles – Winner: Kane Bolton
Runner: up Nick Flynn
Score: 6-2 6-1
Nick Battled really hard but was up against the Club Champion who made very few mistakes
