Davis Cup Tournament

On Sunday 14th August the Davis Cup event took place, returning it to the club’s day-tournament schedule after an absence of several years.

24 players took part with 4 teams of 6 battling it out over 3 rounds with a mix of doubles and singles matches. As ever with the day tournaments there was a good range of Improvers and Full members who all integrated very well and made the teams well balanced. The weather was warm and sunny which added to everyone’s good spirits.

After the 3 rounds the scores were close but the 2 teams with the most points were teams B and D who went on to play a final round to decide the overall winners. Teams C and A played eachother for the 3rd place playoff.

The last match on court became the all important decider with teams B and D on almost identical scores. Team D, which finally secured enough points to end up as overall winners, was made up of Kevin J, Priya, Colin, Phil, Dan and Kevin U. Kerry, the event organiser, along with Wendy, presented the winning team with chocolates!
