Tournament Finals 2019 Weekend #1
Ladies Singles Open Final – Winner Rachel Banks, Runner Up Esther Waghorn (7-5, 6-2)
A very tense and tactical first set between our Ladies Finalists this year with 13 deuces played and momentum swinging one way and then the other. With Rachel narrowly coming through the first set and then pressing home the advantage in the second set to win in straight sets. A good crowd of friends and family watched this cracking match.
Mens Singles Open Final – Winner Rob Mutchell, and Runner Up Sam Doyle (6-2, 6-0)
A masterclass of staying in the point from both our Finalists this year with some of the longest rallies of our Finals weekend. This final made great viewing with a very high standard of play throughout.
Ladies Open Doubles Final – Winners, Rachel Banks and Kathryn Ringshaw. Runners Up Esther Waghorn and Katarina Bunce. (6-1, 6-3)
A superb match played by our Finalists with a really wide range of tactics being deployed to try and change the momentum of the match by both pairs. In the end Rachel and Kathryn came through in two sets to win.
Ladies Vets Singles Final – Winner Sue Brown, Runner Up Loraine Levett (6-1, 6-1)
A very well supported match between the Ladies Vets Finalists. Both players extending themselves. A strong straight sets win by Sue who was by her own admission playing her best tennis the season.
Ladies Vets Doubles Final – Winners Sue Brown and Gini Lara, Runners Up Raji Sharma-Drake and Diane Henderson (6-4, 6-1)
A fiercely contested, tight first set, was played by the Ladies Vets Finalists with Sue and Gini breaking the serve to take the first set. Sue and Gini pushed home the advantage in the second set to win in two sets.
Mens Vets Singles Final – Winner Greg Balfour-Evans, Runner Up Tom Murrell (6-3, 6-4)
A closely contested match with 13 deuces played in the first set alone with games going with service early on in the set and then Tom managed to break in the fifth but Greg immediately broke back. Greg broke again in game eight and served for the first set. The second set was also tight with Greg narrowly winning in the tenth game.
